A TEA party is to be held in Barnsley to tell elderly people who may feel isolated what help is available for them.

Kathy Markwick is the community development officer for Home Instead senior care and a member of the Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club.

She said: "I am hugely concerned at how rife social isolation is across Barnsley. It is very sad with some people not seeing anyone for weeks on end.

"I spoke to an old lady recently who told me that since her friends had 'predeceased'' her and she had no car, she had nowhere to go - how sad is that?

"She asked if I knew of any activities in the area - I have given her details for a local lunch club who are going to arrange to pick her up for lunch and drop her off, which is brilliant. She is really looking forward to going and will undoubtedly make many new friends and her life will be transformed."

The details and date of the tea party will be announced shortly.
