A SERIES of events are being organised in Great Houghton to celebrate the history of the village.
Houghton Main Miners' Welfare Club will host activities on May 4, which will see a clock memorial and plaque for local miners who served during the First World War unveiled.
The group were known as the Houghton Main Mob and on the same day, a collection of photographs reflecting the continued community work performed by the club will be displayed.
A village fete with activities for the whole family has also been arranged to complete the day's proceedings.
As they build up to the event, organiser Kevin Osbourne is appealing for information on a well known photo from the archives.
"Wendy Sharman, who was the 1987 Miss Barnsley, was held up by miners for a photo once a million tonnes was brought out of the pit with the help of mechanisation," he said.
"Perhaps we could replicate that photo because it's an iconic one in the history of Houghton Main.
"If anyone knows where Wendy is now, it would be great to speak to her."
