PROPRIETOR Mike Robson is hoping the Spread Eagle will soar after he reopened the Penistone pub almost a year since it closed.
The 49-year-old, who has been in the pub trade for about 25 years, had been looking to take over the Market Street premises for five months.
He wants to create a family-friendly environment and will be serving coffee and breakfasts from 10am, in addition to pub food.
"We're aiming to make it more upmarket than it was before," he said. "My offer is quality mid-range food aimed at a family market."
Time was called at the pub, which is owned by Enterprise Inns, at the end of last April. It has undergone a small refurbishment and Mike, who lives in Cubley, has taken on six part-time staff members, as well as a full-time one.
He added: "I first looked at this place in November but the pub company didn't do the right deal for me at that moment in time.
"I drove past it every day thinking it needed sorting out so I reapproached them and came up with a deal.
"Penistone needs it, I think Penistone is on the up and it's added another dimension to the town centre."
Mike previously ran the Bridge Inn in Thurgoland, which is currently closed, for eight years before leaving in October 2011.
