A HOYLAND Common man battling to get a bus stop and stopping zone moved from the end of his drive has won a change of heart from Barnsley Council.

James Lowe and his wife Kathryn, both 51, were stunned to find in April this year that a bus stop and stopping zone - called a bus clearway - had 'appeared' across the bottom of their drive on Hoyland Road.

They have been fighting to get it moved as it is blocking access in and out of their property.

Mr Lowe contacted the Chronicle in desperation this week as he said there was no resolution to the problem.

This week, Barnsley Council relented. Coun Roy Miller said: "Works are taking place this week and Mr Lowe has been informed.

"Bus clearways are put down after consultation by SYPTE with any affected householder, so any issues may be resolved before works start.

"Mr Lowe informed the council that the property was empty at the time of consultation. He moved into the house after that, but before works were carried out on site."
