UP TO 15 jobs have gone in the council's environmental services department as part of budget cuts to save £395,000.
Coun Roy Miller said cutting 'managerial layers' was part of savings which had to be made in response to the government's austerity programme.
A council report states: "Wherever possible changes have been made to minimise the effect on front line services.
"However, the severity of the cuts mean that some direct effect on service provision is inevitable."
It goes on to say there is potential employees could be at risk due to a lack of direct supervision and that managers will be under undue pressure
.Two heads of posts within environmental services have been cut and replaced with one head of highways, engineering and transportation post to save £70,000.
Four group leader posts have gone, saving £104,000, a principal engineer in the highways team has been cut saving £48,000 and a vacant post of senior highway development control officer was also deleted, saving a further £42,000.
A landscape designer and senior landscape assistant jobs have been axed and replaced with a new post of landscape design assistant, saving £40,000.
A transport officer post and an assistant engineer in the traffic team have also gone, saving £70,000.
The council says the reduction in posts will have a 'knock on' impact on local people but this will be minimised by 'focussing on the priorities of importance to local people'.
