WHEN Katie Newsam was a little girl she spent hours making clothes for her dolls - now she's bona fide fashion designer, this week opening her own studio.
Katie, 26, says her mum always sewed and made clothes at home so she grew up the same.
After studying at Barnsley College and the University of Lincoln, Katie worked as the in-house designer at a fashion boutique in Barnsley and at the same time was showing her personal designs at fashion shows from London to Liverpool and Blackpool to Brighton.
Her clothes have featured at the Urban Music Awards and the London Luxury Awards.
Katie, from Chapel Close, Shafton, says it would have been easier for her to remain an in-house designer or to have perhaps tried to get work as a designer within a famous fashion house.
"But I would rather risk everything and work for myself so I can follow my instincts and my dreams and create work I am passionate about," she says.
Her clothes cost from £120 to £300 although she recently created a one-off prom dress that cost slightly more.
"I have a varied style, but I suppose what I am perhaps already known for is a collection of 3D swirl dresses- they were featured at Brighton fashion week," she said.
Katie has sunk all her savings into her studio in the Bromcliffe Business Park close to the new Cudworth fire station.
