Tom Kennedy is aware of the criticism he receives from Barnsley supporters but is determined to become a fans' favourite.

The 28-year-old left-back was the target of much blame from the stands during the relegation season and was sarcastically applauded by sections of the Oakwell crowd when completing passes in the final match of the season against QPR on May 4.

Kennedy – who has a year left on his contract– is aware of the negativity felt about him and believes it is partly because he played more games than anyone else last season.

He told the Chronicle: "I have heard a lot of criticism towards me from the fans but I think it is easy to give stick to someone who plays every week instead of players who come in and out of the team. Football is a very, very funny game and you can go from being booed one minute to being loved the next. I will just keep concentrating on my game and try to change the fans' opinions.

"This was my first full season since I left Rochdale (in 2010) and I am proud of how many games I played. I thought I did quite well. I gave 110 per cent every time I went on the pitch and that's all I can ask of myself.  I have learned a lot from my time in the Championship and I feel I am improving all the time.

"I have another year on my contract and I am looking forward to playing for Barnsley next season. It's a fantastic club and I feel very settled here."
