An actor who lived in Wortley as a teenager has landed the lead role in a 2013 theatre production of The Full Monty.

Kenny Doughty, whose family live on Park Avenue, will play Gaz in the stage adaptation of the 1997 hit comedy film.

The 37-year-old, who lives in Los Angeles, has featured in a number of television programmes and films including Coronation Street, New Tricks and 1998 film Elizabeth, alongside Cate Blanchett and Daniel Craig.

His most recent role was in Sky One comedy-drama Stella, created by Ruth Jones.

Mum Julie Saunders said: "He's worked on all sorts of wonderful things but for me this is the crowning glory.

"He's been all over the world but this is more real and fantastic that it's set in Sheffield."

The show will be on at Sheffield Lyceum for three weeks in February before touring the UK and ending up in the West End.

It was written by Simon Beaufoy, the man responsible for the original film.

Kenny's wife, fellow actor Caroline Carver, who counts Jonathan Creek, Spooks and Holby City among her screen credits, will play Gaz's estranged wife Mandy.

Julie added: "Kenny's achievements inspire people to do things, we're just a working class family."
