WOMBWELL’S ‘combat Barbie’ is hoping to take home a national beauty pageant title today.

Maggie Mumby, 18, from Blythe Street, won the title of Miss Teen Catwalk Perfect Barnsley last year and came top three in the national competition.

At the time, she was a member of the Army Cadets and her participation in both the military and pageant worlds had earned her the nickname.

She is no longer a cadet, having become too old, but she is still involved, now as an adult instructor.

She will be going up against beauty queens from across the country in an effort to take home the title of Miss Catwalk Perfect UK.

Maggie, who is in her second year studying travel and tourism at Barnsley College, said: “I’m quite postive going into the competition. I have made 53 appearances through the year, doing mainly local events like food festivals but also charity events for this year’s chosen charity, which is based around brain tumours.”

Maggie will be taking part in the Peterborough-based finals alongside her sister Katie, who is competing in a different category.

“This is our final year competing in different categories. Next year we will be competing against one another, which will be interesting.”
