A MUSIC student from Barnsley is hoping to break a world record for completing the fastest marathon while playing in a marching band.

Cathryn Rogers, 20, of Oakwell Court, will have to play her piccolo for at least seven hours when she takes on the challenge in April as part of the Huddersfield Marathon Band.

The word record is seven hours 22 minutes and 55 seconds, set by German Band Musikverein.

She said: "As part of the rules, we can't have more than 30 seconds break between each piece of music, and the drums have got to keep going throughout.

"We can repeat pieces, but we've got to have a two-hour programme of music."

The event is raising money for Sense, the National Deafblind and Rubella Association. People can sponsor Cathryn online at justgiving.com/Cathryn-Rogers
