A MILITARY-style band is desperate for a van so members can transport all their musical equipment to Jersey where they are due to play this summer.

The Yorkshire Band of the Royal British Legion is based at the Army Reserve Centre on Wakefield Road, Barnsley.

It has been running two years and is the only RBL band in Yorkshire, something members are very proud of says the musical director, Louise Lingard-Snape.

The band has now been invited to go to Jersey in August to play at various parks and at the Gorey Fete.

Louise said: "As the band and the trip is entirely self-funded, all members have been raising money for all the extras needed to take the band on a tour like this.

"We've had race nights, people have made and sold cards and explored every way to raise small amounts of cash to go towards the trip.

"The sticking point is getting the instruments and drums, music and equipment over there."

She said any drivers will be aged 40 or over with clean licences. The van would need to be available from Sunday, August 17 until Thursday, August 28 and be cleared to go to Jersey.
