A 25ft high miner's lamp is set to be a highlight of the new mining memorial park planned for Cortonwood.
Elsecar Heritage Railway has submitted plans for the "bandstand memorial" which will help the memorial park tell the story of South Yorkshire's coalfields.
The lamp will be set on a hillock at the southern end of the four-acre site and will be planted up with rows of heather radiating from its base.
The memorial garden area will also be further developed with artwork by "a top local artist."
The Chronicle reported last week that the park and extended railway line, to be known as Coalfield Memorial Railway, was delayed for 'several months'.
The reason for the delay is that a traffic management plan for a crossing at Tingle Bridge Lane, Hemingfield, has yet to be worked out.
This week, Coalfield Memorial Railway chairman William Tilling, said: "The imminent completion of phase one of the £250,000 railway extension to Cortonwood Memorial Park means that planning the second phase can get underway.
"We have now submitted a planning application for the creation of a 25ft high bandstand memorial in the shape of a miner's lamp."
