VETERAN motoring enthusiast Alf Bettney now gets his kicks at a slower speed.

Alf, 73, of Church Street, Bolton on Dearne, bought his Rolls Royce Silver Spur Three two years ago and it takes up the majority of his drive.

After finally giving up on motorbike racing this year it is now the focus of his attention.

Alf started racing in 1961, but driving around the Dearne in his Roller is now much more his scene and easier on his ageing bones.

He said: "It's much more nice and sedate when you're not flying about at 100 miles-per-hour.

"After I packed in the bike racing I needed something to do with my time and entering shows and going to days out is enjoyable."

Alf, who used to run the now closed Crown Pub in West Melton, will drive the car to a show at the Wentworth Woodhouse on Sunday.

"It's going to be a big show with cars and bikes there in the grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse," he added.
