MORE than 35 vehicles were stopped during a three hour police operation in Barnsley.

Officers were stationed on part of Westway, between the Alhambra and Town End roundabouts, last Wednesday. It also involved officers from the council’s taxi licensing department.

In the three hours, seven traffic offence reports were issued, five of those were for seat belt offences.

One vehicle was seized for no insurance and the driver summonsed to court.

There were also 22 taxis examined, with four vehicles suspended and five written warnings given.

A police spokesman said similar operations are planned with the aim of increasing the safety of road users.
