MOTORISTS driving in and out of Barnsley town centre along Huddersfield Road are being warned of possible delays for the next few weeks.

A gas mains upgrade to keep gas supplies flowing to homes and businesses in Barnsley until the end of the century started this week.

The four-week project to renew gas pipes on the A635 Huddersfield Road will see 350 metres of existing metal gas mains, which have been in use for many years, replaced with hardwearing modern plastic pipes.

From now until Friday August 8, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place between 14 Huddersfield Road and 32 Huddersfield Road.

For the final phase of the project Western Street will be closed at the junction of Huddersfield Road and Huddersfield Road will be closed from Victoria Road for traffic heading out of town.
