AN impressive 41 new businesses and 317 new jobs were created in Barnsley in just three months.

A report measuring Barnsley Council's performance shows how many businesses and jobs were created over the three-month period with support from the council's business development arm, Enterprising Barnsley.

To measure its performance, the council sets end of year targets, against which it measures progress on a quarterly basis.

The corporate plan performance report also reveals that from April to June this year nearly 287,000 visitors contributed an estimated £6.2m to the local economy.

There was also good news for visitor attractions- more than 280,000 people visited Barnsley's museums across the borough during the three months.
