Shoppers and residents will soon be asked for their views on council plans to develop the town centre.

The ruling cabinet will meet next week to approve a draft plan to be sent out for consultation.

It draws inspiration for the 'Remaking Barnsley' vision drawn up by architect Will Alsop 12 years ago and aims to make the town centre 'uniquely distinctive'.

The plan includes 14 development sites and explains how the council will meet its goals. Consultation runs from August to September.

Coun Linda Burgess said: “This is a very important planning document for the future of the town centre. I hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to give their views once the consultation begins.”
