WORK to build a new roundabout on the Stocksbridge bypass has started.

The new roundabout, being installed by the Highways Agency, will improve access to Stocksbridge steelworks to accommodate the town's new Fox Valley development, which will include a supermarket, housing and office space.

A reduced speed limit of 30 mph and the use of narrow lanes will be in force for the duration of the project, which will be completed in September.

All lanes will remain open during peak hours but temporary traffic lights will be used when necessary between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day.

Overnight there will be a series of closures of the westbound lane and diversions will be in place.
