Chris O'Grady goals either side of the break gave Barnsley their first win in seven matches in a 2-0 success at home to Blackpool on Saturday.

O'Grady fired in a penalty in first half stoppage time after Stephen Dawson was brought down by visiting goalkeeper Matt Gilks. The same player then headed home a cross by the excellent Jim O'Brien less than two minutes into the second half.

The Reds are still bottom of the table but, althought the game was not a great spectacle, it was a much-improved performance by the home side and brought new manager Danny Wilson's first win in six games in his second spell in charge.

The first 20 minutes were lively with Jim O'Brien forcing a good double save from Gilks. The game then quietened down but Blackpool thought they had taken the lead when Steve Davies netted before the linesman ruled he was offside.

Five minutes later, Barnsley were in front. O'Grady's looping ball put Dawson clean through and Gilks clearly tripped him. The striker missed a penalty against Doncaster at home this season but fired this one expertly into the roof of the net for his eighth of the season.

The ninth soon followed when O'Brien had time to bring down a long ball by debutant Ryan McLaughlin in the box and cross for O'Grady to head in.

Dale Jennings, who impressed on his return to the side following a loan at MK Dons, thought he got a third but it was ruled out for offside.

Blackpool screamed for a penalty when Thomas Ince was bought down by McLaughlin but there miserable day continued and they have now picked up just one point in ten games.
