Here comes the Gruffalo...

Children taking part in a summer reading challenge at Mapplewell and Staincross Village Hall library have been making Gruffalo monster models from Julia Donaldson's book of the same name.

The art and craft sessions are part of the library's summer reading challenge which this year is called 'story lab'. The idea is for children aged four to 12-years-old to read six books throughout school summer holidays.

Library officer, Helen Campbell, said each week as part of the challenge, youngsters will be able to do different activities linked to stories and the Olympic games.

"It is a brilliant way to promote and encourage reading through the school holidays," she added.

The closing date to register for the reading challenge is Saturday, August 18 and it finishes on Saturday, September 8.
