These old photographs were discovered by a Barnsley couple in a flea market about 70 miles away.
Barrie and Elsie Clarke, of Tingle Bridge Crescent, Hemingfield, found the postcards in a market during a day out in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
One shows a class of what looks like school pupils in costume for a production and the other is shaped like a playing card and features the photograph of William Kingston.
On the back, it states ‘G Rushforth, Dodworth Road, Barnsley, photographer and chromotypist’.
Barrie, 70, said: “I was surprised and I wondered how they have ended up there.
“Everyone was studying them on the bus on the way home.”
He said he didn’t know if there was a link between William Kingston and the place, or the school, but that he thought the pupils on the postcard were from Hemingfield School, where he was a pupil.
Barrie added: “The photo is old, probably about 1950s, and I think it might be Hemingfield School because I think I recognise one or two faces though it’s difficult because they are in costumes.
“It would be nice if someone could shed some light on it.”
