THE parents of a toddler with two forms of epilepsy have raised more than £1,400 for Epilepsy Action and The Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity.

Sally and Dale Swift of Allendale Road, Hoyland, held a 'Big BBQ' to raise the cash. They wanted to highlight the two rare conditions and thank the children's hospital for treating their son Zak, aged three.

Zak has West syndrome and focal seizures. West syndrome is a type of epilepsy occurring in about one in 2,500 to 3,000 children.

Sally and Dale did fund-raising including a World Cup draw and a raffle with prizes of a television and full car service and MOT donated by local businesses.

On the barbecue day, family and friends donated money to wax Dale, Zak's dad, and his uncle Kris Reekie from Blacker Hill got donations to shave half his beard off.

The grand total was £1,428 which will be split equally between the two charities.
