THE PARENTS of a Darfield schoolboy are warning children to be more vigilant after their son needed stitches in his foot after standing on broken glass.

Glass pierced Jack O'Brien's trainers after he ventured into long grass on a playing field near Verona Rise to retrieve his football.

The grass has not been cut due to a reduction in the number of times council workmen cut the field.

Mum Alison, 48, said: "I suppose it could have been a lot worse because there could have been needles or anything in the grass.

"Kids are going to be out throughout the six week holidays and I'm afraid they could get injured too."
