AN ACCOUNTANT is preparing to run a marathon for the first time in 20 years to mark his 50th birthday.

Paul Hinchliffe, a partner at Harris and Co, Huddersfield Road, is raising money for two charities for disadvantaged children, and says while that is the most important reason for doing it, he has two others.

"Firstly, I ran my only other marathon when I was 30, so 20 years on I want to prove to myself that I still can, even if much slower," said Paul, of Blackergreen Lane, Silkstone.

"Secondly, so that my wife Tracey, who has run marathons in each of the last two years, no longer has 'bragging rights' in the Hinchliffe household as having run the most marathons."

He will run the Windermere Marathon on May 18.

Paul's chosen charities are the Brathay Trust, and the Exodus Project. You can sponsor him online at justgiving.com/PaulHinchliffe50
