A QUICK thinking Barnsley pensioner is warning people to be on their guard after he was targeted by telephone scamsters.

Retired electrician Alan White, of Mawfield Road, Redbrook, had a call from a person who said he worked for a telephone company who were offering a device which blocked unwanted calls.

Mr White, 95, said he was interested and asked if he could be sent further details.

He said: "When the person said he could set it up straight away I began to get a little suspicious," he said.

"Then I asked him to send me an invoice and I would pay it once it arrived.

"But then he said to set the service up I would need to give him my banking details over the phone. It was then that I knew it was scam and hung up on him.

"I'd like to make other people aware of what is obviously a scam and warn them not to give their details over the phone."
