EXTRA patrols are being brought in to tackle litter and dog fouling after it emerged it costs the council £1.2 million a year to clean it up.

Private enforcement company Kingdom Securities will bring in an additional 12 full-time and one part-time enforcement officers to patrol streets across the central, Dearne, north, north east and south wards from Monday.

The officers will be attached to the council's Community Safety Team and work alongside the local Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

They will wear the uniform of the Community Safety and Enforcement Team, but will also wear 'plain clothes' at times.

The new officers will wear body cameras while on duty, so that all enforcement activity can be monitored.
