PLANS have been rushed in to develop an Aldi store in Highgate with work expected to start early next year if it is approved.

Plans for the site, farmland to the north of Barnsley Road, will also a residential development of 35 houses.

Aldi says the store is part of their ongoing commitment to the district as their large distribution centre on Commercial Road, Goldthorpe, which brings with it 400 jobs is due to open in early 2015.

In its application, Aldi states: "The application proposals further reinforce Aldi's commitment to ensuring a long-term partnership with the residents of Goldthorpe.

"This continued investment in to Goldthorpe follows the construction of the new Aldi regional distribution centre which is due to open in early 2015.

"This considerable investment will undoubtedly have tangible and long-term positive impacts on the local area."

The store would have a sales area of 1,108 square metres and it is anticipated that 40 jobs will be created.
