APPROVED plans for a co-operatively owned single wind turbine between Cudworth and Grimethorpe were well received at a public meeting.

Residents from Grimethorpe, Cudworth, Shafton and Brierley attended the meeting at the New Options Gym in Grimethorpe where the plans were discussed.

The turbine will be different to most that are erected as it will be owned by the people of Cudworth and Grimethorpe.

Local people can invest between £250 and £20,000 and receive an annual return from the profits.

Directors of Four Winds Energy Co-operative, John Malone and Paul Rea, explained to locals at the meeting how finance for the project will come from local residents or 'shareholders.'

John said: "Members of the co-operative scheme will be sought from the local communities so that as much of the financial benefits of the project can remain in the local areas."
