PLANS to get more young Barnsley people into employment, education and training are being driven by a policy which aims to improve skill levels in the town.
Along with its partners, the council intends to build skills, raise aspirations and develop employable 16 to 24-year-olds to nurture employability skills in their communities.
To achieve this the council aims to see a continued rise in the number of young people who achieve five or more GCSEs at A* to C grade including English and maths.
Cabinet members are due to discuss the proposals outlined in a progress report at a meeting next Wednesday.
Cabinet spokesperson for place, Coun Roy Miller, said: "This progress report shows the outlook in Barnsley is positive because we don’t suffer from the high levels of youth unemployment seen in other parts of the country, instead the issue to be tackled is raising skills levels."
