A CHILDREN’S play area in Cudworth Park will be boosted thanks to a grant from a supermarket.

Money totalling £4,985 generated from Tesco’s five pence plastic bag levy has been allocated to the play area, after shoppers at stores in Barnsley voted for Cudworth Environment Group’s project to add a basket-style swing to the park.

A cheque was presented by Tesco’s Lisa Hammond to Coun Charlie Wraith, chairman of the group, at the park.

“We decided we wanted to have a basket-type swing for young children to use and luckily shoppers backed the project,’ Coun Wraith added. “It’s great that Tesco continue to help community-led projects in the scheme and I’m told more than £90,000 has been given to the local area since it started.

“It’s great news for Cudworth Park and we’re very grateful. The children will love it.”
