FORMER deputy police commissioner Tracey Cheetham has criticised her boss's decision not to stand down in the the wake of the Rotherham child abuse scandal.
In her resignation letter she urged Shaun Wright 'to do the right thing' and resign following the report which found at least 1,400 children in Rotherham were sexually exploited between 1997 and 2013.
Mr Wright was in charge of children's services at Rotherham Council from 2005 to 2010.
He has resigned from the Labour Party but so far has refused to leave his £85,000-a-year post as commissioner.
Tracey, of Royston, also a Barnsley councillor, wrote in her letter: "I genuinely cannot understand your insistence on remaining in post.
"I cannot be clearer - it is my absolute belief that your position is untenable. Your refusal to stand down as police and crime commissioner places unacceptable pressure on those of us who have no historic links to events in Rotherham and casts a shadow over everyone who works with the police and crime commissioner to achieve positive outcomes for children in South Yorkshire. I once again urge you to do the right thing and resign."
