BARNSLEY'S worst roads will be repaired after Barnsley Council was awarded £606,045 to tackle its problematic potholes.

Councils across the country will receive their share of £183.5 million which the government has made available to help repair local roads damaged by severe winter conditions.

The money, which will be added to the council's existing road maintenance budget, has been welcomed by Coun Roy Miller, the cabinet spokesman for development, environment and culture.

He said: "Part of the money will be used to resurface the worst condition roads on our network on a prioritised basis, and part used to carry out cheaper preventative treatments on roads in reasonable condition."
