Ross McCormack scored for the visitors on 16 minutes, his left-footed strike beating Luke Steele after Matt Smith's header.

The Reds created little in response. Dale Jennings blasted over and Tomasz Cywka struck wide in the first half while Liam Lawrence's effort sailed over after the break.

Danny Wilson's men need a win at high-flying Derby County on Easter Monday before their final games at Middlesbrough next Saturday and at home to QPR on the last day of the season.
