Barnsley have been drawn at home to Steve Davis' Crewe Alexandra in the first round of the League Cup.
Davis played for the Reds between 1991 and 1998 and was one of the team promoted to the Premiership under Danny Wilson, who has since returned to the Oakwell management job.
The game will be played on the week commencing August 11. The television games are yet to be announced.
Barnsley have reached the second round in each of the last two seasons thanks to a 4-3 win at Rochdale in 2012 and a penalty shoot-out success at home to Scunthorpe last year. They were then beaten in the second round 3-1 at Swansea and 5-1 at home to Southampton.
The League One fixtures will be revealed at 9am tomorrow morning.
