A RESIDENT who claims his wheelie bin was damaged when it was emptied is livid he’s having to pick up the £20 bill to replace it.

Anthony Coe, of Rose Tree Avenue, Cudworth, contacted the council’s waste department to let them know his bin had split after collection last Wednesday and was told to go online and pay for a replacement.

The charge is not for the bin, but for delivery and that is now the only way residents can obtain new bins following a decision in April to stop people visiting the Smithies depot to collect their own.

That was done on health and safety grounds because it was deemed inappropriate to have members of the public at the busy depot.

This also saw the fee increase from £15 to £20.

The unavoidable cost of obtaining a replacement has angered Mr Coe, 74.
