PLANS to transform the former Darfield Foulstone school site into a retail park will go in front of the Barnsley Council planning board in the coming weeks.

The £10 million development, announced in November last year, was seen as the major priority for the area by Darfield councillors at the start of this year.

Developers say delays were due to the 'physicalities of the site' following reports and surveys, but it's understood that plans will be ready within the next two months.

The plans will be submitted by Belper-based Peveril Securities and overseen by Leeds-based Rothstone Estate's managing director Mark Rothery.

Rothstone Estates still intend to build a supermarket on the site but tenants have not yet been decided upon.

Plans for 39 houses, all a mix of two and three bedroom properties remain in the plans.
