THE ART of shaving is being brought back in Wombwell town centre.

Barber Andy Boyne, 36, transforms his LAKA shop on the High Street into a retro-style barber on Friday nights.

The entire hot towel, luxury shaving process takes 30 to 40 minutes depending on the client and is tapping into the growing popularity of male grooming.

Andy himself is in charge of the cut throat razor blade after completing six months of training.

"There is a consultation before the shave so we can find out about the client because everyone is different," said Andy.

"I identify the growth pattern of the hair because that is crucial to avoiding irritation and that's the main problem with having a quick shave with cold water.

"It is a proper gentleman's style shave from the 1800s and it's like what the butler would have done."

The process is extremely thorough and only well-sourced expensive products are used throughout.

"There was no practising on balloons either," Andy laughs. "You can do that but it's hardly like actual skin. I think that I have a rare enthusiasm for it and the industry.

"Eventually I'd like to have wedding parties in for men where they can have a hair cut, a shave and a few beers. Women have them, why can't we?"
