Roads across Barnsley have been closed and flood warnings issued due to the downpours. And residents at Darton are busy filling sandbags to protect their homes in case the River Dearne breaks its banks. It is not yet known if that is the case but the deluge has caused chaos. Across Barnsley the following roads have been forced to close: Bradberry Balk Lane, Wombwell; Bank Road, Thurgoland; Claycliffe Raod, Barugh Green; High Street, Grimethorpe; Gilroyd Lane, Gilroyd; Green Lane, Penistone; Green Road/Benbank Road, Dodworth; Smithy Bridge Lane, ; A628 at Silkstone; Station Road, Wombwell; High Street, Worsbrough; Bower Hill, Oxspring. Police have urged motorists to take care and to obey road closure signs. Flood warnings are in place on the River Don at Hoyle Mill Lane, Thurlstone and part of the A628 in Penistone; River Dearne at Darton and Barugh; River Dove from Aldham Bridge to Low Valley including Wombwell Ings Caravan Site.
