Huddersfield Town manager Mark Robins says his former club Barnsley 'always get out' of relegation scraps. Robins – who managed the Reds from 2009 to 2011 – masterminded a 5-0 win for the Terriers on Saturday.
Afterwards he said: "The reality is that Barnsley are a decent team when they perform. They have picked up some scalps this season. Ever since they have been back in the Championship they have perennially been around the bottom three but they always get out of it.
"That's something that you have got to admire about them. They are working with fewer resources than a lot of clubs in the division. It's tough and I know that first hand."
Robins, who took charge of 92 games while in the Oakwell hotseat, left acrimoniously after a dispute over budget. He said: "It doesn't give me any extra satisfaction because it's Barnsley that we beat. I'm not smug."
In his programme notes, Robins said Danny Wilson – who was his manager at Bristol City – had taken on a 'good but tough job'. He added: "I don't like seeing Barnsley in their current league position."
Jim O'Brien is the only Robins signing left at Oakwell although he did bring Jacob Mellis on loan and work with Bobby Hassell, Luke Steele and several of the youngsters. He also knows top-scorer Chris O'Grady from their time at Rotherham. Robins said: "On his day Chris can outmuscle anybody. He scored against us last season and this season so we had to be wary of him and we were. Our defence dealt with everything comfortably."
