SAINSBURY'S hopes a decision on its plans to convert the B and Q superstore at Stairfoot is now just weeks away.
The B and Q building off Bleachcroft Way is currently restricted to the sale of DIY products only but the supermarket giant is hopeful this will be lifted by Barnsley Council in July.
It submitted its plans in January and under the proposals, up to 400 jobs could be created.
The 73,500 sq ft site would include a new store entrance, toilets and cash machines, a cafe and mezzanine level and a reconfigured car park to improve traffic circulation.
It will also include bakery, delicatessen, meat and fish and hot food counters.
A spokesman said: "At the moment a date is yet to be confirmed, but we anticipate that it may be in July and we'll be sure to keep the community updated.
"Should planning permission be granted Sainsbury's would work with B and Q and Barnsley Council to bring forward our proposals."
