A COUNCIL scheme has been launched to help Barnsley people living in cold, damp houses, or those suffering from fuel poverty.

The joint scheme between the council's development, environment and culture and public health departments, will see Barnsley's vulnerable households receiving assistance in getting a new boiler.

Some 8,000 properties are eligible, both owner-occupied and private rented.

Residents are being sent letters notifying them of the scheme.
