BUSINESSES are pulling together to improve security following an armed raid at a bookmaker in Royston.
Neil Walker and Ian Miller, of security firm Handle Trade, Midland Road, said there had been a number of burglaries in the area recently and are planning to set up a 'local security liaison' with other businesses in Royston.
It follows a raid at Befred on Midland Road where staff were held at gunpoint. A man brandishing what police believe was a handgun entered the store demanding staff hand over money.
The suspect is described as aged between 20 and 30, about 5' 6'' and thin.
He was wearing an orange hooded top and a red and white 'face covering'.
Ian Miller, 51, of Handle Trade, said: "I think if businesses in Royston communicated more, we could make the area a safer place to work in.
"It's an idea that I'm taking to the neighbourhood watch and the police."
The firm has already tightened up security at Walker's Fish and Chip Shop following a burglary there two weeks ago.
Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident 1157 of April 8.
