A MAN who selflessly ensures those struggling to afford food have something to eat has been put forward for a Proud of Barnsley award.

Tom Glenn, of Legacy Church, Barnsley, has been nominated for volunteer of the year by his friend Benjamin Hampshire for 'dedicating his life to serving others'.

In his nomination, Benjamin said Tom encourages people to give whatever they can which is then donated to the food bank at Gateway Church.

"Despite not being rich in the sense of money, Tom is extremely passionate about serving the homeless people of Barnsley and South Yorkshire. He used to spend every Saturday morning spending his hard earned money getting to Barnsley and Sheffield town centres to distribute food parcels he had made off his own back."

He said he works all the hours he can get at Premdor and makes sure his children have everything they need.

Benjamin added: "I cannot emphasise how much of a sacrificial life Tom leads. In every situation he is always upbeat and determined to see the positive to bless other people.

"Tom adores this town and more importantly the people in it.

"Never would he take for himself - his default is to elevate others and it would be incredible to see him honoured for being a hero of this town."
