STAFF at the Barnsley Building Society's branch on Cheapside have been cutting birthday cake and handing out the party poppers as they celebrated the branch's 10th birthday.

They marked the decade since the building society openedits doors on Cheapside by handing out cake to customers.

Things have certainly changed since the branch opened its doors in 2004 – Michelle McManus the first female winner of Pop Idol was at number one in the charts, Shrek 2 was the highest grossing film at the box office and Barnsley FC finished 13th in League One.

Mike Fisher, manager of the Cheapside branch, said: "We really enjoyed our birthday celebration and giving our customers and fellow residents of Barnsley some party treats as a way to thank them for welcoming us for the past 10 years."
