TANKERSLEY School is setting up its own version of the 'Springwatch' wildlife show - courtesy of the Barnsley Biodiversity Trust.
The school is the first in the Barnsley area to install a bird box with a camera inside, and children are preparing to watch and document the daily activities of the birds that move in.
Monica Ward, secretary of the biodiversity trust and volunteer, said: "We think it's very important to work with children and look to the future as many wildlife groups are mainly supported by older people.
"We aim to do more about wildlife with schools. Years ago, schools used to have things like nature tables - and we need more of that."
Barnsley Biodiversity Trust has been awarded a grant of £11,000 - to be spent over three years - from the Heritage Lottery Fund to pay for nest boxes, ponds and bird hides in some schools.
