A STORYTELLING chair bought in memory of a mum who died last year has proved popular with children at a Cudworth nursery.

Mum-of-three Vanessa Stuart died last January aged 28. Her children had attended Sidcop Nursery, where staff and other parents raised funds when for Vanessa and her family when she became ill with cancer.

Julie Saxton, of the nursery, said: "It was with great sadness we heard Vanessa had passed away.

"When we attended her funeral we were so moved to hear she wanted to thank the nursery and that she had requested money in lieu of flowers would be given to the nursery."

They decided to buy the chair which can seat a child and an adult for story time.

John Nyland, who uses a community workshop in Cudworth, designed and made the chair for the nursery which has been delivered this week.

Vanessa's youngest daughter Molly still attends the nursery and Julie said Molly particularly liked the chair.

"She really does love stories. It just seems like the right thing, We're really pleased, and I think it's a fitting tribute to remember her mum by."
