A STREET where wheelie bins haven't been emptied for more than a month has become plagued by flies and foul smells.

About eight houses in Crown Avenue, Barnsley, last had their bins emptied five weeks ago on April 11.

A council spokesman said: "Changing waste collections for every single household in Barnsley has been a huge challenge for the council. We know that many residents have been affected, and we're sorry for this.

"The vast majority of bins are being collected on the new day and every effort is being made to complete the rounds the following morning. We are continually looking at our collections, our complaints handling, and reviewing what we do so that we can keep improving the service and recover the standards that our customers are used to.

"If people are having problems, their first source of personalised information is www.barnsley.gov.uk/waste
