A BARNSLEY beauty student who suffered multiple injuries after falling from a five-storey balcony while on holiday in Malaga has been flown home.

Amy Chester Wigfull, 24, is lucky to be alive after falling while sleepwalking.

She suffered several broken vertebrae, broken pelvis, broken arm and a bleed on the brain and is currently in Sheffield Northern General Hospital.

She had been on a family holiday to celebrate her mother Shelley's 40th birthday, but did not get travel insurance because it was only a short break.

Tutor Gwyneth Hirst said Amy's family had been trying to raise £20,000 to cover medical bills and the flights back to the UK, and has organised a raffle and collections to help contribute to the cost.

She said: "Amy's been stuck in hospital in a really bad way. She's been in intensive care all this time, but I understand she came home at the weekend and she's awake. Her family have had to pay the cost of the medical bills which has run into thousands.

"Because she is one of our students, we wanted to do something as well so we're trying to raise as much as we can to give to them to pay for some of the things they've had to pay out for."

A raffle has been organised which includes tickets from Barnsley FC, hair and beauty vouchers and other different things.
