A FORMER village store and post office which had faced an uncertain future, is now looking forward.

The Pantry in Gawber has just celebrated its first anniversary under its present name 12 months after a £200,000 refurbishment scheme and re-launch.

Business partners Gary Thandi and Joe Johal bought the old village shop on Redbrooke Road four years ago. They then realised if it was to have a long term future it had to change.

So they spent their savings and borrowed money to radically alter the shop and its stock and now have a business which is a version of an urban farm shop.

The post office is still open inside the shop from 7am until 9pm.

Regular customer Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis joined in the celebrations.
