A group of cyclists named 'Team Tarn' will cycle from John O'Groats to Barnsley over the August bank holiday weekend.

The riders will notch up more than 530 miles while raising money for Barnsley Hospice and Weston Park Hospital. They hope to raise at least £3,000.

The team is made up of Michael Hirst, 38, Glenn Tolan, 43, and Dave Redfern, 42, who work at Barnsley Premier Leisure, along with Jason Eyre, 41, of Wavin Ltd, and Andy Clarke, 44, who runs CH4. Ronnie Erskine and Dale Healey, from BPL, will accompany the team providing food and support.

To promote the journey the team has recorded a song and video.

It features all those who are taking part as well as celebrities including football pundit Chris Kamara, Barnsley actor Shaun Dooley and singer Jon McClure, of Reverend and the Makers. Dearne-based musician, Mike Collins known as the 'Minstrel O'Tarn', recorded the song.

The group acted after friend Darren Hayes, 38, of Monk Bretton, was treated for testicular cancer at Weston Park. He is a patron of the charity and said it was fantastic the team was supporting local charities.

Siobhán Dransfield, BPL digital media executive, helped promote Team Tarn on social media sites and filmed the video. She said: "It has been great fun to make, and hopefully people will enjoy watching it on YouTube and spotting everyone."

Filming was done at the Oakwell Legends v Celebrities match, and other locations around Barnsley including the Barnsley Chronicle.
